The tunes are Karaguna and Chorós ts Jígnas. Briul pe opt (Moldavian dance)Despite being Moldavian, this piece sounds a lot like Bluegrass music! Recorded live at Majors Creek Folk Festival in November 2008. Rampi Rampi (Turkish song)Stef sings a traditional Turkish song called Rampi Rampi. Recorded live at Majors Creek Folk Festival in November 2008. Murguletul & Briul pe Sase (Moldavian Dances)Here we play 2 fast paced traditional Moldavian dance tunes - Murguletul & Briul pe Sase. These were recorded live at Majors Creek Folk Festival in November 2008. Kalinka (Traditional Russian Folk Song)Melska joins the band to sing the traditional Russian folk song Kalinka. The lyrics are all about Juniper Berries, but rumour has it that Kalinka is really a fertility song and only uses berries as a metaphor to talk about the birds and the bees. Zebra Carcass - Serbian Kolos3 Serbian Kolos played at Open Studio on October 31st 2008. The 3 pieces are Zajecarka / Usicka Carlama / Beogradanka. Excuse the strange screeching noises made by the band at the start, but the Jody specifically requested that the opening is quiet - and so the band was as noisy as possible! Kopanitsa and Gankino Horo (Bulgarian Tunes)Two Bulgarian tunes in 11/8 timing - a Kopanitsa in A minor and Gankino Horo by Boris Karlov. These were recorded at Yackandandah Festival March 2008. Bubamara (Goran Bregovich) from Black Cat White CatMade famous in the film Black Cat White Cat, Bubamara is a cheeky little song about Lady Beetles and was composed by Goran Bregovich. In this version, Melska sings it with the Melbourne gypsy-influenced band, Bizerka. This was recorded live at Majors Creek Folk Festival on November 15 2008.
Hasapiksos Horos & Sadila JanaA Greek tune called Hasapiksos Horos and the Macadonian tune Sadila Jana. These were recorded at Bar 303, High St Northcote by Melska. Bizerka plays Biserka (Serbian Dance)Bzierka play a traditional Serbian dance called Biserka (which means Pearl) in a not so traditional way. Recorded at Bar 303, High St Northcote, 18th October 2008. Geamparalele din Bīrla and Rachenitsa (Romanian and Original tune)Recorded at Yackandandah Festival March 2008, we play a traditional Romanian tune called Geamparalele din Bīrla and an original Rachenitsa composed by Niggle.
Bizerka : Kolo from Ripanj (Serbian)Recorded at Yackandandah Festival March 2008, we play a traditional Kolo from Ripanj. The original score has a marking which says "Tres Bouncy" or "Very Bounce" and so we've kept that name for this piece. |
